Kodaly Sign

Tuesday, 24 November 2009

Today in theory class, we learn how to say notes using our hands. We did C-B using one hand together. It was called Kodaly Sign and it was pretty confusing at first but as soon as you get to it, it becomes pretty fun like playing a game or something. After that, the one who sits on the front row do that one by one. For the second row, they were told to do that with both hands. Some of them were very good but some of them weren't. Then we use the Kodaly Sign to play a song called lightly row together, but then we were to do it in front per group and unfortunately the guitar went up first. It was a tough time for me because at that time I was still confused. Then we were told that the development workbook will be sent.

Re-Test

Thursday, 19 November 2009

Today my re-test was great. We had the same questions for the music history part (which we already discussed about it last meeting which makes it too easy) and then same old scales and chords questions. It was easy now because I've studied about them but even so, I think I still got some wrong because I forgot some of them ;(. Then we had some additional questions about inversions, which luckily I studied for and it was pretty easy but somewhat confusing. I am so happy today because I can do the quiz properly unlike last time ;).

Hard Quiz Day

Tuesday, 17 November 2009

Today we have a music theory quiz about chords, scales, inversion and also classical and popular music and its composers. I definitely did not do well because, for my first page which contains the music history questions I guessed them all. For the second page which I don't understand a thing was about the scales, and chords. That part I also just guess for most of them. I also just noticed that we were given a website to check and it's teoria.com. We were suppose to study from that website which I did not. I definitely will improve my quiz on Thursday because Mr Harry was being really kind to us all that he actually gave us another chance of doing the quiz since most of us didn't do really well. Then we were checked whether our blog was updated, mine wasn't ;(. But for now, I have to concentrate on the test on Thursday.

6/10, Hurray

Thursday, 12 November 2009

Today in theory class, our scores on the assessment and homework was given. I got 6/10 and for me that's a very good score because if I were the teacher seeing my student perform like that, I wouldn't even give him/her a score ;) so thank you to the teacher whoever mark my horrible performance. For my homework I got B- if I'm not mistaken. Mr. Harry taught us about the key signatures for each scale: major and minor and their related scales. For my next meeting I must study about those scales and chords because there might be a quiz.

Worst Performance

Tuesday, 10 November 2009

Today Mr Harry showed us some of our classmate's performances on tape. After that it was us Flute and Guitar turn to perform. Luckily we were given some time to practice before the performance for about 10 minutes. I was performing twice because at first I did really really bad. I couldn't even go through 1 bar without making any mistake... what a joke. Since I was laughing too long and couldn't focus at all Mr John told me to perform last so that we won't waste time. When it was my second time to perform I was very nervous (again) and I made many mistakes. It was a disaster and I think out of all it was the most horrible performance in our class. I will try to do better next time, I'll give it my best shot again if I can ;(.

Performance Day for Piano and Violin

Thursday, 5 November 2009

Today was the performance day for Violin and Piano. They played their own composition and most of them were great. Some were nervous and some were not, even over confident ;). For next week it'll be Guitar and Flute's turn so I better start practicing in order to achieve the highest of the highest.

Guess What Song?

Tuesday, 3 November 2009

In theory class I was suppose to handed in my Finale and Midi files which I did not because I had several reasons. Then, we discussed the problems in our homework: scales, 7 chords and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd inversion of them. After that we had a little game on guessing songs that were played. I only guessed 1 right and I even forgot what it was. For homework, we'll have to update our blog and for me I have to hand in my incomplete works

First Absent

Thursday, 29 October 2009

In theory class our homework were checked. And they learned learn about C major scale and the chords. Jacintha and Viena performed their compositions in front. Then they were given a homework to do. I didn't know many details about this particular day because I was absent at that time. So I got this info based from my friend's reflection.

Finale and 5 Midi Files

Tuesday, 27 October 2009

Today, after finished checking those who didn't bring their resources, we discussed our finale homework. Then, we fill in our reflection on our singing of 'Gundul Pacul' last week. After all this Mr Harry showed us how to use and operate finale properly, its notes, lyrics and bars. For the next lesson we'll have to finish our finale composition with the lyrics and to send 5 midi files of classical music based from our first name alphabet. The homework due dates was change because it wasn't pretty clear before.

Another performance..

Thursday, 22 October 2009

Today ,we sing one song from either 'La Bamba' or 'What a Wonderful World'. I picked What a Wonderful World and again, we have to sing it 2 by 2. My partner was with Jeffrey and it was horrible because we laughed a lot, we couldn't stay focus especially me. I think I get bad score for this particular performance. I really need to stay focus for next time and try my best not to laugh unlike today. For next lesson, we have a homework of finding midi file of a classical composer and finale sofware.

2 on 2 Performances

Tuesday, 20 October 2009

Today, we sang 2 by 2 the song 'Gundul Pacul'. Then we wrote our compositions into a new sheet of paper. Last we sang La Bamba and also learned a new Western Song and this time it's not a funny language, and it's called What a Wonderful World. It's a pretty good song actually. For next meeting we have a western singing assessment.

New Song: La Bamba

Thursday, 15 October 2009

In piano theory class today, we wrote notes from C till the higher C for 4 octaves. After that we were asked to fill in the worksheets that was given to us all. I forgot my scores. Then we sang Gundul Gundul Pacul again then we learned a new funny language song called La Bamba. It's suppose to be spanish I think. For the next lesson we need to be more familiar with La Bamba, especially it's funny language

Gundul Gundul Pacul

Tuesday, 13 October 2009

Today we sang Gundul Gundul Pacul per instrument group then Mr Harry played our melodies (the homework that was given last week). For the next lesson we were asked to put lyrics in our melodies

Music Reflection

Thursday, 8 October 2009

In theory class today, our homework about AA'BA', AA'BB', ABB'A was checked. Some of my classmate's work was written in the whiteboard and played in the piano. Then we were asked to sing the scales in front accordingly based from our groups, then we also sing Gundul Gundul Pacul. After all that, Mr Herry checked us whether we have our Finale. I still don't have one because I went to the right place but just the wrong time. So, for the next class I'll bring my Finale

First day of Term 2 Music Theory

Thursday 6 October 2009

Today is the first day for our Term 2 Music class. Today in class we learn about a musical form which is pop, a different one than classical and many others. Then we wrote a 16 bar melody with the pattern AA'BA' like this song called 'Ode Joy'. I think i did pretty well in making this. For our homework we have to create other forms including AA'BA', AA'BB', ABB'A'. Next time I will try to make better music in order to achieve the highest expectations from my muisic teachers

Last day for Term 1 Music Theory

10/09/09

Today is the last day for term 1 Music theory, we were assessed one by one by singing an Indonesian song called 'Indonesia Pustaka'. The calling was based on alphabet so my turn was pretty quick because my name starts with D. Before the assessment occured Mr. Harry discussed with us our developmental workbook which was a homework for Monday, 14 September 2009. For my singing I think I did pretty bad because I was not confident and I was laughing for quite some time too. I will try to do better next time on my performances.
